With 14 years of experience bridging science and hands-on beekeeping, Nuria brings deep insight into bee health, behavior, and best practices. She has taught courses in Integrated Pest Management (IPM), queen rearing, and honey bee biology, and holds a PhD from the University of Guelph. As Chair of the BC Tech Transfer Program and a former Bee Inspector, Nuria makes complex topics accessible—empowering learners with both knowledge and confidence.

Get expert insights on honey bee health from a researcher with global experience.

Dr. Fahim Raza draws on years of international research—from studying varroa mites in Pakistan and exploring gut symbionts in China to investigating bee diseases in Canada by gaining his PhD in microbiology and postdoctoral research at the University of Saskatchewan. His broad expertise in microbiology and pest management helps beekeepers better understand and respond to the complex challenges facing honey bee colonies.

With over 30 years of experience in beekeeping, research, and education, Heather Higo brings deep expertise to our course content. She has taught Bee Master courses at SFU and UBC, led research in leading labs, and served as President of the BC Honey Producers’ Association. Today, she runs a small apiary in South Langley specializing in queen rearing and consults directly on the development of our courses to ensure they’re rooted in science and real-world practice.

With 50 years of hands-on beekeeping and a background in biochemistry, Axel brings unmatched depth to his teaching. A former high school biology teacher, he inspired students through rooftop hives and beekeeping clubs, and now serves as the Bee Inspector for Central Kootenay/Boundary. As Chair of the BCHPA Certified Instructor program, Axel is dedicated to mentoring new beekeepers and sharing the knowledge he’s built over a lifetime in the field.
